From carelessly framed photos on my phone, to my first ever photo gallery taken in a dark auditorium, I’ve improved a lot as a photographer over the past three years. When I first joined the staff, I saw photos as an afterthought. But, when I realized that visuals draw readers in, I decided to focus on improving my photography skills.

The Riverside Pirates won 50-48 against Jordan Falcons in a February 9 basketball game. This was my first time photographing sports and I’m happy with how the photos turned out despite my lack of experience.

Photo gallery: January 31 teacher protest

On January 31 2024, my school and many others closed due to a planned teacher absence. Teachers and other staff called out sick in protest of a pay change for classified workers. I decided to cover the demonstration.

Photo Gallery: Music In Our Schools Month Concert

On March 2, 2023, all of Riverside’s music departments performed a concert for Music in our Schools’ month. I took the opportunity to create my first-ever photo gallery. Although the lighting made it particularly tricky, I learned about the technique and timing needed to capture a live performance.
